backdown

backdown plan

Propose where everything on the old drives goes in one archive, and why (saved, so it can be applied).

On this page
backdown plan [OPTIONS]

Options

--to <TO>
The archive folder (on the drive that will keep everything).
--from <FROM>
Only file these drives (default: every indexed drive but the archive's).
--schema <SCHEMA>
Your own filing schema (start from backdown plan --print-schema).
--print-schema
Print the built-in schema and exit.
--merge-mail
Merge copies of the same mailbox by Message-ID, instead of filing one and copying the other's extra files beside it.
--json
Print it as JSON, for scripts.

Also takes the global options --db and --local.

Good to know

A plan only proposes. The archive's own drive is never a source. Nothing is copied until backdown apply ID --go, and nothing is ever deleted. Mailboxes that are at least 90% the same as another of the same origin are filed once, with the other's extra files beside them; --merge-mail merges them by Message-ID instead.

Examples

backdown plan --to /media/archive/Archive
# only one drive
backdown plan --to /media/archive/Archive --from /media/old-drive
# your own schema
backdown plan --print-schema > schema.toml
backdown plan --to /media/archive/Archive --schema schema.toml
