backdown

backdown manifest

Signed, tamper-evident manifests of what a drive held at a scan: sign one, check one (anyone can, here or on another computer), list the ones kept, show your signing key.

On this page
backdown manifest [OPTIONS] <COMMAND>

backdown manifest create

Sign a manifest of DRIVE as of its latest finished scan: every file's path, size and hash in one Merkle root, signed with this installation's key and chained to the drive's previous manifest, and kept in the index. The document goes to the terminal unless --out names a file.

backdown manifest create [OPTIONS] <DRIVE>

Arguments

<DRIVE>
The drive (an indexed folder), or a folder on it.

Options

--scan <SCAN>
Attest this finished scan of the drive instead (backdown scans lists them).
--out <FILE>
Write the signed document to this file (never overwritten).
--list <FILE>
Also write its listing, every file as a line of JSON, to this file: checking which files were signed needs it (never overwritten).

backdown manifest verify

Check manifests: the signature; the chain, among several files or with the manifests this index keeps; with --list, that the listing is exactly what was signed. Exits 0 when it all checks, 2 when something doesn't.

backdown manifest verify [OPTIONS] <FILE>...

Arguments

<FILE>...
&nbsp;

Options

--list <FILE>
The manifest's listing (with one manifest).
--against-index next preview
Also compare it with the index now: what was added, removed or changed on the drive since (with one manifest).
--json
Print it as JSON, for scripts.

backdown manifest list

The manifests this index keeps, oldest first (one drive's, or every drive's), and whether each drive's chain is whole.

backdown manifest list [OPTIONS] [DRIVE]

Arguments

[DRIVE]
Only this drive (or the drive this folder is on).

Options

--json
Print it as JSON, for scripts.

backdown manifest export

Write out a manifest this index keeps (by its number in manifest list), and its listing, made again from the index's record of its scan.

backdown manifest export [OPTIONS] <ID>

Arguments

<ID>
&nbsp;

Options

--out <FILE>
Write the document to this file instead of the terminal (never overwritten).
--list <FILE>
Write its listing to this file (never overwritten).

backdown manifest key

This installation's signing key: its fingerprint and public key, for whoever checks your manifests (made now if there's none yet)

backdown manifest key [OPTIONS]

Options

--json
Print it as JSON, for scripts.

All of them also take the global options --db and --local.
